Chris Jernstedt was an original constultant to the Midwest Brain and Learning Institute in 2000, helping the planning staff identify neuroscientists who had done research with appliations to educational settings. His encouragement in the initial stages of the Institute's design was invaluable. He has been the neuroscience presenter for seveal institutes and has been well received and "user friendly."

Dr. G. Christian Jernstedt, Co-Director of the Center, is Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth College and Adjunct Professor of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. He specializes in human learning, educational technology, and evaluation research. Dr. Jernstedt has received national recognition for his teaching and has received both of Dartmouth’s awards for distinguished teaching. He offers workshops, seminars, and lectures throughout the country on learning and teaching, potentials of the human mind, educational technology, and institutional and program assessment and development.

Dr. Jernstedt's research has been in the area of learning as it occurs both in formal classroom settings and in the natural environment. This research has been directed towards understanding the cognitive, behavioral, and affective precursors, concomitants, and outcomes of learning experiences, including classroom and other intentional learning, the training of physicians, the impact of training in the arts on cognitive learning, long-term adult behavior change, technologically enhanced learning, service-learning, and experiential learning programs.

Dr. Jernstedt has been extensively involved with using technology to support thinking and problem solving. He currently chairs Dartmouth’s Committee on Distance Education, has repeatedly chaired Dartmouth's Council on Computing, and was a member of the Presidential Task Force on the Future of Educational Computing at Dartmouth. He is the designer and author of educational software that is nationally distributed. Dr. Jernstedt discovered, developed, and has conducted research on computer enhanced collaborative learning.
