He specializes in human learning, educational technology and evaluation research..
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 -- Neuroscience Supports Foundations for Learning Dr. Judy Willis, MD, M.Ed, is both a neurologist and a credentialed teacher who has taught elementary, middle and graduate school. She has combined her neuroscience knowledge and years of classroom experience to become an authority in the field of learning-centered brain research. She has written five books on the subject and gives national and international presentations.
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 -- Neuroscience Implications for Classroom Practice
Linda Jordan is a master presenter for Susan Kovalik & Associates, and an Associate Professor of Education at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where she teaches Educational Psychology, Classroom Management and Curriculum and Methods for Science, Math and Social Studies. She also is a part of hte founding team, which established the Midwest Brain and Learning Institute as well as the creator and inistructor for an on-line certification in Advanced Learning.
Thursday, June 24, 2010 -- Post-Institute session --"Taking the Institute Home" The morning of the full day Post Institute session, you will have a chance to learn more from Ronna Alexander and Cindy Strunk. Ronna, our graphic recorder, will give you tips on how to do your own graphic recording! And Cindy, who will have led us in movement instruction throughout the Institute, will tell you the story of her school, Sul Ross Elementary in Waco, Texas. The amazing staff there has created an award winning school with their “exemplary learning environment.”
The second half of the day will address ways you can apply new knowledge to effect change in your schools and districts. In this work session, you will receive a template to use for discussion and reflection of what you’ve heard and learned during the Institute, which you may share with your department, school, administration, parents, etc. You will leave this session with a tangible tool and action plan.
There is a cost of $25.00 to attend the Post Institute Session. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
This session is required if you are receiving 2 graduate credits or 6.0 SB-CEUs for attending the 2010 Midwest Brain & Learning Institute. (The fee for both types of credit should by paid by the first day of the Institute – see Credit Options section.)
As in past years, the the Midwest Brain and Learning Institute will be a brain-compatible event for participants. For 2010, your own learning experience will be supported by the participation of Ms. Cindi Strunk and Ms. Ronna Alexander.  Cindy Strunk is a National Board Certified teacher in Waco, Texas and a Susan Kovalik Associate. Cindy received her Masters in Education from Paylor University and has been using brain compatible strategies in her classroom for over 19 years.
 Ms. Alexander is a Graphic Recorder. Her past collaboration with the Midwest Brain and Learning Institute captured presentations from the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Institute in a large format chart. She is on of only a few such Recorders in the country and has been working nationally and internationally with profit and non=profit organizations for the past 11 years. Her graphic expertise will provide you another brain-compatible way to process information from the 2009 Institute.
